Question by ltlkhan: Why would a Toro lawn mower won’t keep running?
This Toro Personal Pace lawn mower was left with fuel for a year or two. I cleaned the carburetor, replaced the oil, replaced the spark plug, checked the air filter, and put new gas. When I use starting fluid or prime 5-10 times, it starts. But it won’t keep running. It dies after few seconds.
What could be the problem? Please help!

It sounds like you did everything necessary to get it running after it sitting around for that amount of time. I would bring it to the Toro dealer. Its probably something you just can’t do on your own.

check the little air hole on top of the gas cap, if it’s clogged,no air is getting into the gas tank tohelp move the gas around. I know it sounds simple but that was the reason my lawn mower wouldn’t stay running. If it’s clogged, clean it out by tapping hard on it or use a thin needle to clean it out. If you can’t get it cleared, purchase a new one. Also check the fuel filter, that could be blocked as well.
Not sure…..I had a toro with the exact same problem…..Eventually I bought a YardMan mulching mower with self drive for like $160 at Walmart. Starts every time!

but seriously, I had a small Honda lawn mower to do corners and stuff and I had the same problem where it would stop and then die after a few seconds. But I noticed that if I pressed the primer while it was on it would keep running for a little longer. Honestly I forgot what the solution was though. Try starting it with the gas cap off?
The priming bulb is probably cracked. Or the dip tube is stopped up or fallen down in the gas tank.
The carburetor needs to be properly cleaned and a rebuild kit installed in it. This means taking it off the engine, taking it apart, and soaking it in a quality carburetor cleaner, not the spray junk. Make sure all passages are clean, blow it out with compessed air and reassemble using a rebuild kit.
