My “new” (used) Toro 20435 Super Pro Recycler II Lawnmower. I bought this mower for from a gentleman in La Puente who had it listed on Craigslist. It has a 5.5 hp Briggs and Stratton Quantum GTS-2 engine and uses a “Super Recycler” blade and kicker system. This model was primary made to be a mulching mower as it didn’t come with a discharge chute and bag but it appears that one could be fitted. Mower is well used but the deck still appears to be in good shape. The only problem it has is that it is hard to start when cold. It took many pulls but did start and run at the place I picked it up. I had trouble starting again after I got home for this video but I got it going by spraying propane straight into the carburetor. It would run on gasoline after I let it warm up on the propane but it would become hard to start again after letting it cool for 15 minutes.

I purchased a Toro 20332 from Home Depot in April 2010. GTS is a joke, it has been an absolute nightmare to start.
Also if you need warranty service, at the Toro website you have to find a dealer that states; “Services Toro products regardless of where purchased.” or you can’t get warranty service.

nice mower and just a bit of info. its not based on a quantum, it is a quantum. Briggs even made the “Suzuki Style” 4 Stroke GTS motors on the more fancier ones. Alot of people dont know that, i didnt till someone corrected me.
oh and your supposed to start it with the throttle all the way BACK not in front. in the back is where the choke is…..
hey stupid, toro doesnt manufacture there own motors its probly a briggs stupid. Mabey you consider looking at it more closely
Yes, I did eventually put the discharge and the bag from my older Toro with the Tecumseh engine on this one. The rectangular cover unbolts and the discharge chute fits right in it’s place.
You can purchase a rear bagger kit from any lawnmower shop that deals with Toro or Exmark equipment. I believe the part number should be 59179

for a 2 stroke get a Champion CJ-8 or equivilent, its a tiny little spark plug.

Just a thought, check if the cable for the chock is set properly. After a little time they do strech or get lose. I had that proble on the same engine (just a few years older) and now it will start frst pull no problem.
My lawnmower start like yours. I consider changing the spark plug, but i don’t know, what type should i buy. Now there is a regular car spark plug in it, but the lawnmower has 2-stroke engine. After it started, it runs without problem. Maybe the compression is too low, because it’s about 30 years old
And its hard to make good mixture of oil and gasoline (because its 2-stroke). If i pour too much oil, it wont start, but if less oil, it will kill the engine and lower the compression…
