you probably added too much oil, nothing to be alarmed about, drain all of the oil using the drain plug that is just above the blades, you will need a 1/4 ratchet to remove the plug, make sure the spark plug is disconnected before you do this. then remove the spark plug, spray some carb cleaner into the plug and into the combustion chamber , put a rag on the spark plug hole and turn the blade a couple of times, the excess oil will come out from the spark plug hole. reinstall plug and add the correct amount of oil. for push lawn mowers, its usually about 1/2 quart. Lawnmowers use multi-grade oil, usually 5w30, make sure the oil type is correct.

    Did you over filled it?
The oil should be exactly at the line and not over. if you over fill it it will smoke and possibly foul the plug which will keep it from running.
Did you turn the engine over or sideways when draining the oil? if so you may have flooded the engine. Remove the spark plug and clean it give the engine a few pulls to clear the cylinder then put the plug back and try again. http://www.stevesequipmentrepair.net
