LAWN MOWER ENGINE POWERED BOAT. BRIGGS & STRATTON / SEARS. BAY AREA WATERS.

I Put This 6.5 Horsepower Lawnmower Engine On An Old Clinton Outboard Leg. Then Hooked Up A Steering Lever. Here’s a cool gps locator on amazon: www.amazon.com
calpusengineering.webs.com I took an old school bicycle and modified it to hold an engine. I took a two-cycle lawn mower engine and rotated the carb to make the shaft horizontal. Then I used a belt pulley for a manual clutch. The pulley goes to the normal bike chain which makes it a 7-speed! I can only get it up to fourth gear then the chain falls off, but thats around 50mph, fast enough for me on a bike. This thing runs really well its really fun to drive. I was a junior in high school when i finished this.

adjust the pitch on the outboard a bit
preety beefy haha that things preety beast man
Looks and sounds like you did a good job. Do you have any video or photos of the adaptation that had to be made?
Regards
wow dude i made one this past weekend but i didnt realize when i welded the nut onto the shaft, unfurtunantly it was a brass nut. i ran it in the back canal for about 5 min and then it snapped. when i take it apart and fix it ill get a video up. mines only a 3.5,compared to your 6.5 scooted along pretty good on the 7.5 leg
if you weld a minibike clutch to the drive shaft…..you will have neutral till the engine is throttled up…..
Makes me want to go and work on mine!
A brotha’ with some redneck ingenuity… you dont see that everyday.
MacGyver has nothing on you.
i no where i could get a briggs 15hp vtwin to do this with it would ripp
that a cool setup
There is no neutral. When I reach back & start the engine, it moves right away. I use the kill switch mounted on the seat to stop the boat. It would be nice to have neutral & reverse, but the outboard leg didn’t have that, so its just a single gear setup without neutral.
Thanks for the nice comments. I’m going to be making a how to build video soon for my latest invention. It’s a tiny energy efficient heater that can drastically reduce your heating bill. Subscribing to my channel gets you notified when I put up the new video.
Thank you! you are what inspired me!
does it have a neutral and plane?
nice good job
@rzsdad1 I watched your video. Nice work. I gave you 5 stars. I like your idea with nut and the socket as a coupler.
I could not find a coupling anywhere so I welded a 1/2″ nut to the outboard shaft and bolted a 3/4″ 6 point socket to the mower blade hub assembly! I just got it going check out my video
@rzsdad1 just get the closest one, drill a hole through it and screw it in. The 14 teeth spline on the johnson has a 12/24 ratio i think so call any manufacture and they will custom machine you one if you want.
I have looked all over for the splined couplings for the 1/2″ splined outboard shaft with no luck. Do you have any idea where I could find one? Thanks! Richard
@rzsdad1 you can buy couplings that screw over you shaft. I am doing the same with my 48 lower end and 5hp mtd yard machine. they are called splined couplings I think. Get the one that clamp together with screws, or make your own.
Ok I got a 48 Johnson boat leg and a 5HP briggs. The Briggs has a 7/8″ keyed shaft and the Johnson boat leg has a 1/2″ splined shaft. How did you couple the two together? Your advice would be greatly apreciated! Richard
I don’t know then, my lawnmower has a flywheel and it won’t turn properly without the blades. I called a lawnmower repair shop and he said they won’t start without the blades. He said I need the blades on it, or a pulley system like a riding mower or I need a better flywheel like from a pressure washer. That’s why i’m thinking my problem is the flywheel. But if you don’t have that problem then I’m lost. Thanks
To my knowledge, my lawn mower engine didn’t have a flywheel. I just removed to blade and attached the crankshaft to the leg shaft. I’ve never heard of a missing flywheel making an engine run hot. I don’t think that would happen.
I read more post, so you took your flywheel off? Is that how you got it to run with no blades. Wouldn’t that also allow you engine to run hot.
The engine started up fine. The blade doesn’t have much to do with engine function, so removing it will not disable the engine.
i dont see any lawn mower if you mean the motor then thats called a motor not a lawn mower
Thats nuts i think a smaller sprocket on the engine would make that thing scream. Nice job tho
@hockeyj29 race him lol
@lilaugustino14 cool make a vid of it
hillbilly much? lol this is great though good job!
My butt and I like the shape of that seat
red neck motorcycle lol
I WANT ONE!
Do you have an instructions manual to make it? I haven’t done a project in a while…
what do i do if the break things dont work cuz there rusted?
Its not a bicycle. It is a MOTORCYCLE!!!!!!!. It should have a vin # and a tag.
may i ask how you mounted the engine on the bike? i have a briggs and stratton 3hp engine and im trying to mount it on my schwinn… theres enough clearance for the engine, but the spark plug is a little tall…
also, how long does a full tank last you?
how fast dose it go
how did you make this?
This is got damet nniceee
i wont this
but on mine bike:X
I have a almost new Eager-1 Lawnower its quite new but for some reason the metal is all rusted up and i can poke wholes through the metal with a stick its so weak but the Engine looks brand new, Would it be alot of work to put it on a bike the same as this? i dont get how the throltle would really work tho but it does have slow speed and fast speed
What kind if belt did u use “rubber”
@morph995 yeah didnt i say that? electric motors are awesome light small and powerful, but they’re only as good as the batteries that power them
@pzpepsi not if you use LIPO, NICD, NIMH, or Lifepo4…there’s people getting 30 miles out of their battery packs
@pzpepsi my faceonfire account was deleted so i made a new one but anyway I think that it might be a bit too heavy but if you want to use it go ahead and try, I would love to see it. I prefer gas power but that is just me.
how do you add the engine as i really wanna do it???
@faceonfire1 oh, well i was gonna make one with a 4hp electric motor and use 2 car batteries but i wouldnt ever drive that thing since i have plenty of cars that were made just to fool around in
how long did it take you to build that cause me and my friends are tryan to make one
MAN you have nice videos you look professional to.
i have some quastions ,please answer,
what happends if i put a lawnmower at my bike but like on the side…..
i mean the engine whats gonna happend??can something happen if i have the engine on the side??? CAN SOMETHING HAPPEND IF I HAVE IT ON THE SIDE AT MY BIKE I MEAN WITH THE ENGINE???
WILL IT WORK OR BREAK DOWN.
PLEASE ANSWER:)
@pzpepsi I didn’t use car batteries I used a kit I got on ebay and it is ridiculous how much they are limited.
@faceonfire1 yeah, i thought so. so you used car batteries? cuz electric vehicles are limited by its power source so much that its ridiculous
